How To Get Cryptocurrencies? - Step By Step Guide
Numerous methods to make a bit of pocket money on the internet exist, but How To Get Cryptocurrencies? making a living is not one of them. Many people also want to earn some cryptocurrency using their PC's idle time, it's nearly impossible with current technology. Mining altcoins is still possible, if you have an expensive equipment and can spare the energy, but it's no longer profitable.
Reddit user u/xur17 can show you how to get free cryptocurrencies using your computer's processing power without investing anything other than the time needed for installing some software.
Here are his instructions:
Step 1 Download Awesome Miner : https://awesomeminer.com/downloads#skip_linux_amd
Downloading and running this program will cost you nothing, because Awesome Miner is free to use with some limitations (see below). You don't even need to register an account or give them your email address. Just download , install , enter a "Captcha" code when prompted by windows ("Google reCaptcha" should be pre-selected) and click the Run Awesome Miner button.
Step 2 Enter a Bitcoin address
The only thing you need to decide on during the installation process is what Bitcoin wallet should be used by Awesome Miner . You can find your BTC address following the instructions here: https://btcdirect.eu/en-gb/bitcoin-wallet
When you have your BTC receiving address, enter it as requested and press Next . At this point, check whether everything is correct and click the "Close" button to finish installing Awesome Miner .
Step 3 Run Awesome Miner
Awesome miner will ask you to sign in with a username and password, but nobody really needs these things so just leave them blank and press "OK". The program will launch and display your Bitcoin address as well as the default mining pool server.
Step 4 Configure Awesome Miner for Your Mining Pool
This is not a compulsory step, but it will allow you to receive small amounts of free cryptocoins every day (the default pool pays 0.0016 BTC per user daily). Choose one of Awesome Miner's predefined configurations depending on which mining pool you want to join and press "Save".
You can change this later by pressing the blue wrench button, or delete everything and make your own configuration from scratch. If you do decide to save a configuration for a specific mining pool, remember that only pools with SSL support will give you credit for submitted shares (SSL is used to encrypt connections between different users' miners and mining pools).
As you can see from this screenshot from u/xur17's post , the only required information to get started is your pool username and password. There are other parameters available which work exactly like they do for Bitcoin mining in Awesome Miner, so don't be shy to explore them all! Alternatively, if you're not very comfortable configuring things by yourself just yet, go ahead and download one of Awesome Miner's pre-configured Bitcoin mining profiles and edit it.
Step 5 Make Some Money!
Assuming your pool is up and running, go ahead and launch Awesome Miner . You should see the "Miner Status" tab open by default. Here, you can configure how many CPU cores will be used to mine (use all cores if unsure) and press the Start button. This doesn't start your miner immediately, but just registers that Awesome Miner will start mining when your computer boots or shortly after that.
While you're still in the "Miner Status" tab, check whether everything looks alright (checkbox "I've started miners before..." should be ticked; pool information like username and host correct; ticker frequency set to five seconds; miner status "Running" (green) or "Idle" (yellow), but not "Not responding"... if you see any of these, then something is wrong with your configuration ).
Click the big wrench button at the top to access Awesome Miner's configuration settings. Here, you can setup everything to your liking. For example, you can change what information will be displayed on the main screen by clicking the Options tab and selecting which items are shown in each section of the dialog. You can also have more than one instance of Awesome Miner running at the same time using different Bitcoin wallets, so feel free to experiment!
For advanced users , it's possible to connect your mining rigs directly to Awesome Miner. Simply check out this guide and make sure to give it a try!
Now you know all there is to know about mining bitcoins (well, other cryptocurrencies too if you like). Have fun earning those coins! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them below. And why not follow us on Facebook to stay up-to-date? Thanks for reading and good luck!
Step 5: Profit!?
Awesome Miner offers quite a few possibilities that might be of interest even if just for curiosity's sake. For instance, we can see what happens when we increase the miner count beyond one. As we can see, the hash rate doesn't suddenly jump past 100 GH/s as would be expected with ten Antminer S9's. The same behavior can be observed even if the miner count is increased to values over one hundred! This just goes to show how incredibly powerful modern mining hardware has become.
As a side note, it might be worth mentioning that the Cuckoo Cycle algorithm used by many alt-coins such as Monero and Bytecoin is very similar to Equihash . As a result, the Z9 Mini also works for those cryptocurrencies. Just make sure to configure Awesome Miner accordingly (the pool information needs to match).
The calculators linked in this article are based on data from whattomine.com and cryptocompare.com , so feel free to check whether they're up-to-date or not by visiting these sites directly.
u/xur17 also pointed out that it's possible to configure Awesome Miner to make money even when not mining, which is achieved by using the "Profitability Switching" feature of the "Awesome Profit Switching" ( APS ) module. For more information on setting this up, check out this article . If you're only interested in making money while sleeping , then don't forget to setup an "Awesome Profit Pool", which is essentially a subscription-based pool for more serious miners who want higher profitability switching frequencies than what Awesome Miner's built-in profit switcher allows for.
Check our preconfigured profile with Nicehash as one example . You might also want to give u/cameronpalte 's implementation a go if you're not too fond of subscriptions. Lastly, Awesome Miner can also be used to mine Pascal and Dagger-Hashimoto coins with Nvidia GPUs, which works flawlessly with Profitability Switching activated.
Note: Our calculator uses the current profitability information from all available pools. This means that when Nicehash is down or unavailable for any reason, its corresponding algorithm might show a lower-than-actual profitability figure due to the lack of actual numbers from Nicehash's servers (hence the red warning at the bottom). For this reason, mining other currencies such as Ethereum and ZCash might get you better results than what our calculator shows here. Furthermore, it's always advisable to check your local electricity price info before calculating profitability!
